Our Fish Health Program at Kane Aquarium
When you purchase a fish, you're not just buying an animal—you're bringing home a living creature that deserves the best possible start. At Kane Aquarium, we take extra steps to improve the health and well-being of every fish before it reaches your aquarium.
Our Fish Care Standards
Every fish in our system is carefully monitored and maintained to promote strong health and reduce the risk of common diseases.
Hyposalinity for Health Support
Our fish are maintained in hyposalinity (specific gravity 1.009), a proven method that helps reduce stress and lowers the risk of many common external parasites.
To further support fish health, we feed a varied diet of premium dry and frozen foods multiple times daily. Our feeding program is supplemented with metronidazole, helping support healthy digestion and reduce the risk of certain internal parasites.
Observe Your Fish Before Purchase
We encourage customers to spend time observing their fish before taking them home.
If you'd like, simply ask one of our staff members and we'll gladly feed the fish so you can see its appetite and behavior before making your purchase.
Proper Acclimation Matters
One of the biggest mistakes hobbyists make is rushing the acclimation process.
We recommend a 45–60 minute drip acclimation before introducing your new fish into your aquarium. This gradual process helps fish adjust to differences in water chemistry, temperature, and salinity, reducing stress during the transition.

Quarantine New Fish
Even healthy-looking fish can carry diseases that are not immediately visible.
For the best long-term success, we strongly recommend quarantining every new fish before adding it to your display aquarium. A proper quarantine period protects your existing livestock and allows you to monitor new arrivals for any signs of illness.
Optional Medicated Quarantine Service
Looking for additional peace of mind?
Kane Aquarium offers an optional 2-week medicated quarantine service for an additional fee. During this period, your fish receive extra observation and care before going home.
